A Promotion Worth Celebrating
Before we jump into our conversation with Angelica, we want to take a moment to congratulate Angelica Gonzales on her recent promotion to General Manager of U.S. Operations! For anyone who’s worked alongside her, this moment feels less like a surprise and more like a natural next step. She’s been leading by example for years—building relationships, solving problems, and keeping both the people and repairs moving forward with care and precision.
Her journey to this point is nothing short of inspiring, and it is time to share it.
From Stitching Repairs to Leading Operations
Even before learning directly from the source, Angelica Gonzales, her journey at Gear re-Store, I knew we’d be diving into a story that’s stitched with experience, leadership, and heart.
I asked her how her hands-on background—from her very first role as a sewer—has influenced her decisions today as our General Manager of U.S. Operations.
“Starting as a sewer and having the opportunity to experience different roles… taught me the value of sharing what you know for the success of others, attention to detail, teamwork, and understanding the day-to-day challenges employees face,” she explained.
“Those experiences help me lead with patience and empathy, guiding decisions that support our team, our partners, and the high-quality work we’re known for.”

Repair Work is a Puzzle—And Angelica's Solved Hundreds
One question I always love asking our team is this: What do people often overlook about gear restoration work?
For Angelica, it’s the time, precision, and creativity required for every single repair.
“It’s like working on a puzzle,” she said. “Even if it’s the same repair, the garment itself can be different. You’re starting from step 10 instead of step 1.”
Her deep understanding of each repair approach and material construction gives her a unique perspective on the entire process—from how it’s done to how to teach it.
Building a Team That Feels Like Home
Another thing I was curious about? Her most rewarding challenge while working with Gear re-Store.
“Hiring new team members and watching them grow,” she shared. “Seeing someone start out unsure, then gain confidence, develop their skills, and take pride in their work is incredibly fulfilling.”
Angelica is driven not just by sustainable practices but by building people up—from the first stitch to leading teams with trust and care.
“Creating a culture where people genuinely enjoy coming to work and feel supported has been just as important.”
Leading with Collaboration and Compassion
When I asked what kind of moments really make her smile on the job, she didn’t hesitate:
“Seeing a team member accomplish a repair they struggled with—or hearing them offer to help or show others how to do a task.”
These little moments, she says, are what define our culture at Gear re-Store. As someone who’s grown through the ranks herself, she’s passionate about creating a space where everyone can grow.
But, what did she hope folks asked her more often?
“I wish more people asked what motivated me to grow within the company. It gives me a chance to share my passion for sustainability—and the drive to develop team members who share the same love for sewing and saving gear.”
The 9-to-5… and the 5-to-9
Outside of work, Angelica runs an online shop focused on keeping clothing out of landfills—another outlet for her commitment to sustainability.
“The shop is a passion project. I want to help promote and encourage sustainable fashion,” she told me. “Using the weekends and weeknights to do this has helped me stay inspired to save more jackets at Gear re-Store.”
A Zipper That Changed Everything
There’s one piece of gear Angelica will never forget: the first zipper she ever replaced for a customer.
“It helps me remember the teacher I had—their patience and eagerness to see me succeed helps me stay inspired and motivated to develop and encourage others.”
Which may seem like a simple fix on paper, but one that carries a lasting message: someone believed in her. And now, she gets to be the one who believes in her team.
Bonus Round: What’s Her Theme Song?
When asked what song best captures her energy, Angelica had to think for a moment—but landed on a classic:
“Everybody Wants to Rule the World” – Tears for Fears.
Honestly? A timeless anthem for someone who leads with strength, empathy, and a deep commitment to their team.
Behind the Seams: Key Threads from Angelica’s Journey
As our conversation with Angélica wrapped up, it became clear that her story isn’t about climbing the ladder—it’s about building each rung and helping others along the way. From stitching gear to steering U.S. operations, her journey reflects a blend of grit, curiosity, and leadership that’s impossible to miss.
What stood out most?
First, Angelica’s range is unmatched—she’s worn many hats (and probably sewn a few, too), navigating roles from sewer to logistics, repair, and site supervision before stepping into HR and, ultimately, general management.
Second, her growth is rooted in hands-on experience. She didn’t just manage processes—she lived them. That gives her a perspective few leaders have and makes her uniquely equipped to bridge gaps between teams.
And third, through every title change, one thing remained constant: her ability to adapt, lead with heart, and never lose sight of the people doing the work.
Conclusion
Angelica is the kind of leader you remember—grounded, resourceful, and incredibly driven. From sewing machines to steering operations at a national level, her story is a reminder that brilliance doesn’t just rise to the top—it stitches its way there with purpose. Simply put: she’s fabulous.
